The Global Art book barely mentions an Iraqi and Iranian piece of art however it chooses to limit the children’s scope from Islamic art. I view this as another biased piece of work that is keen on dividing the world rather than a simple tool for educating children about the world or so called “GLOBAL ART”.

These art activities launch kids on a creative adventure toward global awareness, even if we could not include every single country in the world (thank you for understanding!). Projects and activities use many techniques, including: collage, painting, drawing, construction, and sculpture. The chapters are grouped by continents and countries. THere are some edible projects in the book kids really enjoy as well as many that young children will particularly appreciate. Another fun resource for you in the book are lists of children’s picture books that can be used with various countries. I hope you enjoy the list of wonderful suggestions. After watching many children enjoy these projects, one in particular seems to interest all of the kids: “Moribana Flower Scenery” from Japan. Artists create a miniature woodland scene with collected items like plants, leaves, and bark. The little scenes they make are highly imaginative and lovely and always include a stream or pond. Always remember that you can find free samples pages from all of MaryAnn Kohl’s books at her website, [...]. Please visit soon!

We really like this craft book – it’s one of the better ones we own. The materials are easy to find, the crafts are easy to do… and it’s fun! If you’re looking to supplement your homeschooling curriculum or just want a great book overflowing with ideas for rainy days and weekends, get this book.

I enjoy all of MaryAnn F. Kohl’s books, and this one is a little different than her others as it has a bit more in the way of finished products, though they are all arrived at by discovering and creating. Still, this book works well for those older kids who want a little more “fact” in their art. My favorite chapter revolves around Asian projects, in particular those from Japan.
